The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in a concert on the lawn of the Mississippi Museum of Art. As Miss Welty wrote, in the days before air-conditioning when windows left open, she could hear the orchestra rehearsing across the street. The first half of the program imagines what she might have heard. The second half of the program is the extraordinary 1979 adaptation of Beethoven’s Fifth Piano Concerto titled “June Recital” in which five Welty stories are set to Beethoven. “June Recital” is performed by Obie-Award winning Brenda Currin accompanied by the virtuoso piano soloist Mississippi’s Philip Fortenberry.
